I am a molecular biologist and artist whose oil paintings are inspired by dives around coral reefs worldwide. My work explores the beauty and fragility of marine biodiversity while advocating for ocean conservation.
The Underwater World
Beneath the surface lies a world of astonishing beauty — coral gardens alive with color, graceful creatures gliding through shifting light, and vast landscapes that feel both otherworldly and fragile. Through my paintings, I seek to capture not only the vibrant hues and textures of this hidden realm, but also the quiet sense of wonder it inspires. Each brushstroke is a reflection of my own journeys as a diver, where the ocean continually reveals new details, rhythms, and surprises. For me, the canvas becomes a window into that extraordinary world — a chance to bring the sea’s magic onto dry land.
Protecting What We Love
Yet the beauty of the ocean is also a reminder of what we stand to lose. Coral reefs and marine life face mounting threats from climate change, pollution, and overfishing. The biodiversity that fuels my art — and sustains life on Earth — is in urgent need of protection. I believe that art has the power to spark connection, and connection can lead to care. By sharing these paintings, I hope to invite others to pause, to marvel, and to recognize the importance of preserving the oceans that give us so much. Protecting the sea means protecting our future.
